While working on my ePortfolio throughout my writings I began to see a change for the better. My writing techniques have become more eloquent and professional. When the ePortfolio was first assigned during class I did not like the idea. It seemed to be too much pointless work and writing 12 journals seemed like a lot. As a student now after my ePortfolio I have grown as a writer and established better techniques.

At first I only uploaded my papers I had written for english and one from history class. I was not quite sure what to write about in my journals so I needed inspiration from my professor, friends and family. After I was able to receive multiple ideas from everyone, I began to type my first journal. I enjoyed writing about me first and giving background knowledge of things I liked. When I finished with that I moved on to talk about my favorite song, athlete, hobby and best friend. I was able to express myself through my 12 journals and it did not feel like a boring assignment anymore. As I kept writing more and more journals my grammar improved as well as my vocabulary.

I believe the ePortfolio has prepared for my placement test; I feel more confident now about my writing. Coming out of high school I thought I was ready for college level writing but after failing my placement test I knew maybe that was not true. Looking back towards the beginning of this year I have progressed into a great writer. The ePortfolio played a big role in my writing ability.

Course Registration

As my first semester as a college student here at Old Dominion is coming to an end, I am prepared for the next. My first semester was a success and I intend on my second to be successful as well. I am excited to begin the spring semester after Christmas break.

Preparation is very important for registering for courses. I scheduled a visit with my academic advisor Mrs. Bethany Armstrong and she guided me through a list of the courses that I have to take for my major in Exercise Science. Previously, my intended major was Health Science because I had the desire to be a Physical Therapist. During my meeting with Ms. Armstrong, she informed me that she was a business advisor which made her question why she was my advisor. We discussed exactly what my intentional occupation was to be, then she told me to email Mrs. Billie Cook. At this time I was not performing well in my environmental science lecture class. I asked her if it was a good idea to withdraw from the course before the add/drop course deadline. She informed me that dropping the course would also mean discontinuing the lab that goes along with the course resulting in having nine credits for this semester. I also was curious to which I would need to retake the course since I was switching my major to Exercise Science. She then told me that I did not even need that class for my major. After explaining the situation to my mom we came to the decision that withdrawing from the environmental science course was the wiser idea. At the end of the meeting Mrs. Cook printed off a course sheet for me to look over and we highlighted the classes that I should take. When I got back to my dorm, I visited the Old Dominion course catalog to get a brief description of the courses. After researching each course, I knew exactly which ones I would like to register for. Following my the previous advisors I was placed with a new one, Joseph Richie. He sent me an email so we could discuss registration and verify that I was finally on the right track. He explained the prerequisites that were required for the next semester; also we selected the courses I will register for when the registration period opens. When the meeting was finished, I felt prepared to begin the spring semester.

Preparation in college is the key to success. I took the initiative in figuring out my registration and not waiting until the last minute. If I did not prepare myself for the spring semester, I would be not be on the right track which would result in taking all of the wrong the classes. College is about becoming responsible and taking control of your future which are the steps that lead to adulthood. I was ready for registration and the future I have here at Old Dominion. This was my first step in becoming successful.

Journal Entry 12 Family

I believe that family is the most important thing in life. My mom dad and brother have made a huge impact on the person I’ve become and I couldn’t wish for anybody else. Family helps you through the rough patches in your life and celebrates with you through the glorious times. Having a close relationship is important. My family is very close and we are very traditional for the holidays. We decorate the Christmas tree together and hang lights outside in the front yard. I love my family and they mean the world to me.

Journal Entry 11 Favorite Song

My favorite song is Dreams by Migos. It is a group made up of 3 guys who rap. I listen to their music because of the way they flow to the rhythm and their beats. When I listen to Migos I instantly get excited and begin to jump around and shake my dreads. Dreams has been my favorite song for a month and everyday when I wake up I listen to it to begin my morning. I think Migos is a good group to listen to if you enjoy rap music.

Journal Entry 10 Best Friend

I met my best friend Austin Tom in the third grade. He was new to my elementary school and I already had all of my friends. One day at recess I didn’t want him to play basketball with us because we already had enough people. My friend Rashad insisted on letting him play so he did. Austin never played basketball before, he didn’t know any of the rules. Later on in the year we became friends and he would come to my house after school on Fridays. I taught him how to play basketball and he fell in love with the sport. Our friendship is getting stronger and stronger each year and I consider him as my second brother.

Journal Entry 9 My Favorite Hobby

Junior year of high school I began to weight lift. I have fell in love with it ever since. In the beginning I was only lifting weights because of football and I needed to be stronger. Now as a freshmen in college I have continued lifting weights and I look forward to going to the gym everyday. After seeing results it just makes me want to go back each and everyday. The gym is my favorite hobby.

Journal Entry 8 Brent Grimes

My favorite player in the National Football League is Brent Grimes. The way he plays football inspires me to play just like him. He is fast, strong and can jump very high. He is one of the best has his position and gets paid well because of it. We both have kind of the same story. He was under sized during high school and many schools looked over him. The only chance he had to play football was at Division III colleges. He attended Shippensburg College to play football. After his college career he joined the Canadian Football League to pursue his dream of playing in the NFL. Brent tried out for every NFL team and was then placed on the Atlanta Falcons. His dream was achieved, and I hope to have the same out come as he did.

Journal Entry 7 My Favorite Sport

I love the game of football. This is by far my favorite sport. Ever since I was kid I played football and it stuck with me through high school. Football is a game where you can let all of the things in your mind vanish; its just you and your teammates. All week I would just day dream about the up coming game and what I wanted to accomplish. Every play I have a chance to do something better than the last play.

Journal Entry 6 If I Had Millions

I wish I had enough money to buy all of my favorite things. I always dream about winning the Mega Million and what i’d do with the money. The very first thing I would do is pay off my college, my brothers college and half of my girlfriends college. Then after that I would buy all of my favorite clothes, shoes accessories and game consoles. My parents would get their house paid off and I would give money to my aunt and cousin for them to buy a nice house. After buying everything I wanted and giving to my family, I would put the money in my bank account for the future.

Journal Entry 5 High School football

During high school at Clover Hill I was very small, weighing in at 105 pounds and a height of 5″4. My parents said I was too small to play football. I wouldn’t let that deter me from playing the sport I love. I did not play much freshmen year through junior year. In the spring of junior year going into my senior summer I grew to 5’10 155 pounds. I did not go to our football workouts because I wanted to lift weights on my own and become stronger and faster. At the end of my senior year of football I was being recruited by Randolph-Macon, Hampden-Sydney, Christopher Newport and Guilford. Football was my dream and I achieved it.
